My Story

Daniel Purcell — Game Developer & Narrative Designer

Hiya! I’m Daniel, a northerner living in Brighton, UK and a passionate games developer and artist with two decades of experience creating atmospheric, story-rich worlds.

Over the years, I’ve worked at studios like Lionhead, Kuju, Supermassive Games, and now Electric Square, where I’m an Associate Art Director. I’ve been lucky enough to contribute to titles like Fable, Killzone Shadow Fall, Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, Lords of the Fallen and more. My real passion is cinematic horror - especially where environment, lighting, and storytelling intersect.

I’ve worked across a wide range of roles — from setting visual targets and leading art teams, to getting deep into lighting, cameras, and building worlds that support strong narratives. I love the craft and clarity that comes with prototyping, pitching, and bringing ideas to life through atmosphere and visual story telling.

Now I’m building something of my own: Alchemy Realm, a small indie studio focused on psychological horror. Our first project is A Dark Place — a cinematic psychological horror game that explores memory, guilt, and identity. It’s personal, it’s intense, and it’s where I’m pouring everything I’ve learned.

Thanks for stopping by. You can check out my portfolio here or follow along as I build this new world.
